Why do we like games?
Reflecting on the reasons for my newfound recreational passion, my wife Meg had a theory about why I like to play strategy games. She concluded that I wasn't intellectually stimulated enough at work, and that I needed something to fill that void, and gaming was that something. I was flattered with that assessment, but it also prompted my thinking. Now, about two weeks later, I have a theory on humankind's propensity towards games (sports included).

Games come with a set of rules. If there weren't any rules, how would the game be defined? They also come with a set of components needed to accomplish the goal of the game. Using basketball as an example, the teams are provided with two basketball goals and the ball--everything needed to accomplish the objective -- scoring more points than the opponents. In chess, each player is given an arsenal of pawns and other pieces to conquer the adversary's king.

Games provide the structure and materials needed to win!

I think that many of us believe that life isn't fair. We aren't always provided with all that we need to succeed. Hard-working people are passed up for promotion. Some of the most healthy and wise people die at a young age. Injustice seems to win out more often than we think it should.

I would agree that we aren't always given the things we need to succeed -- by the WORLD's rules. However, God has a different set of rules. When we were born, we were dealt a crummy hand. Our father Adam screwed up royally and thus our inheritance is sin. We must be perfect in order for a righteous and Holy God to take us to be with him in eternal life. Our sin leads to death, so what can we do? Nothing.

It was done for us. About 2000 years ago, God took the form of man in Jesus Christ and sacrificed Himself so that we can be made right with God. If we accept Jesus' payment for our sin, our destiny of death is no longer! We now inherit eternal life, knowing God the Father. We are given all that we need [Philippians 4:19]to have life, and have it to the full! [John 10:10]

If you would like to discuss this, please email me--I would enjoy discussing the awesome Love of our Great God!

Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

John 10:10 (Words of Jesus)
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly."

Feb 10th Update from Meg
Hey Everybody!

I hope that everyone is doing well! For me, we are in one of the most exciting of times - the Olympics. I look forward to watching every single second. Right now, though, is the NBA All-Star Game - so Bert is watching this until the Olympics come back on after it's over. God was totally involved in this - both are on the same network - so we don't have to decide which to watch.

Besides that, life is pretty good. We would appreciate your prayers on some medical issues that I (Meg) am going through. We had one test that came back with some questionable results this week and another that is still out for a separate problem. We are hoping that both come back with positive results.

Yesterday, we both went our separate ways and had a great afternoon. Bert went with some friends from church to see Lord of the Rings, and I went to the North Carolina Museum of Art to see the major Toulouse-Lautrec art exhibit. We came back together last night for a birthday dinner at a Mongolian Grill restaurant in neighboring Cary.

Today, Bert turns 26. I assure you that he looks the same as he did yesterday, when he was 25. He grows more wonderful with each day. I have the incredible blessing of living with the man of my dreams each day!

This week, we are preparing for our first Valentine's together (we weren't dating last year at this time). I don't know of any one special plan in particular, but I'm sure that we will have a good one. What are all of you doing?

Please let us know what is going on with you - we would love to hear the latest and greatest from your neck of the woods!

-- Yours in Christ --
Meg (and Bert)

getting a bit stale
OK, I realize that I haven't posted anything here in a while. I apologize.
There's not much to tell. We spent the weekend running around. We went to the Dumaises on Friday night and had Bojangles (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm).
Saturday, we spent TWO AND A HALF hours cleaning the apartment. That evening we met with two couples from church at the Vineyard Cafe to see our friend Shane Blake perform.
Sunday was the SuperBowl, and our church had a gathering for it.

Coming Soon...
Pictures from the wedding. It has been reported that a friend of the Albertson family has put all of their digital photos on CD and it's on its way to us. So, expect to see some new material on the website soon!
