New Links Section
In an effort to continue to keep this Blog fresh, I have decided to create a special section of the 'Links' list (look to the left) to focus on things that are currently of special interest to BaM. I may or may not provide explanation for these links, but today I will.

Crokinole Boards
I was introduced to this game by someone at the Thursday night gaming group. I loved it instantly. The game requires that you 'flick' wooden discs toward the center of the board, attempting to land your pieces into the center. However, if one of your opponent's pieces appears on the table, you must hit their piece first or eliminate yours from the board. A simple, yet engaging gaming experience! I am shopping for a board now, and from what I hear, this website has great product and great service. BTW, it also serves as great wall decoration.

Savannah Visit
Meg will be joining her mother in Savannah, GA this weekend to hang out, shop, and possibly enjoy the beach. On an unrelated note, I will be having a marathon gaming session on Saturday. :)

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Watch out for the crazies

Back in the day when I first started to drive a car on my own, my mom would send me off with nuggets of advice:

'Watch out for the other guy'; the ubiquitous 'Be safe'; and sometimes I would be blessed with 'Watch out for the crazies!'

I must admit that at the time, this seemed silly to me. I thought, "What am I supposed to look for?" and "How do I tell the crazies from the 'other guys'?"

Well, over the years we find that most of the parental advice we ingored as teenagers turned out to be nuggets of pure, raw truth. Even without the specificity required to meet the standards of what is to be called 'great' advice, the words she spoke were gospel.

My quotidian ritual of commuting is evidence enough.

Thanks, Mom.

Walk for Diabetes Fundraiser
Chances are you know someone who has diabetes. In our family, Bert’s mother, my grandfather and my former roommate has it. Who do you know that suffers from this unfortunately common disease?

For those who suffer from it, diabetes is an on-going, day-by-day, way of life. Everything that you eat, drink, and do can affect your life.

On Saturday, September 7th, Bert and I are going to be walking in the Walk for Diabetes. We are hoping to raise $200 (or $100 for each of us) for Diabetes support and research through the American Diabetes Assocation.

Will you consider pledging toward our walk? We would appreciate any and all support! If you are interested, send an email to Bert and Meg.

If you would like more information about the walk, or about what the American Diabetes Association does, please check out their website at www.diabetes.org.

Thanks again!

-- Bert and Meg D.

Weekend Plans
So, what's cookin' for the weekend? Around here, Meg and I will be having dinner at Ruby Tuesday's tonight. We will probably be going to see Signs tomorrow (second time for me, and yes, it's that good). And sometime this weekend we'll try to play 'TransAmerica' or 'Piratenbucht', our two new games that came in yesterday.

We played two new games last night at Games Galore. The first was a manual dexterity game called 'Hamster Rolle'. It was pretty neat, but I would need to play it again to experience its potential. The second was 'Clash of the Gladiators', which is a dice-fest, but nice, light fun. Meg won by a landslide. Who knew she was so skilled at hand-to-hand combat?

Enjoy your weekend!

Gaming Benefits!
Who says that nothing productive comes out of gaming? Not that I have heard anyone say this, but here's proof otherwise, just in case there are any naysayers out there:

Carcassone gets this guy a job (kind of)!

Meg Wins Dutch Blitz Competition!!
Man I just slammed those boys last night! In a surprising turn of events, Meg (yes, Meg) beat both Mark and Bert in the Dutch Blitz Card Game last night at the new Dumais abode. The final score, in a wire-to-wire game was 82-79-65 (Meg, Bert, and Mark). This is Meg's second win in as many nights as she beat Bert in Settlers of Catan Card Game (Two-Player) on Sunday night. Stay tuned for more updates on her latest winning streak!!

Long Overdue Update
This weekend, Meg and I went to the Big Apple. That's right, New York City! [Neither of us can say or hear that without then thinking, 'get a rope' -- from the old Pace Picante Sauce commercial] We met up with Jason and Michelle Ferrell, friends of ours from college. Highlights of the trip were visiting the Empire State Building, seeing Les Miserables on Broadway from the 9th row, and the museums-- the Met and the Museum of the City of New York. Soon, we will post some pics of the trip. We took two rolls of pictures in three days. Along with that, we will place new pics of the kittens. They look more like cats nowadays. They're huge!

And now for something COMPLETELY different -- waste some time today playing putt-putt. Revisit your youth!
[by the way, my low score is 40 -- beat that! :) ]

P.S. I promise, I will post something before Halloween! :)
