New CD Recommendations
I have that craving again. . . for new music. I want to listen to something different, something intelligent, and something that sounds GOOD. I'd also prefer something with positive lyrics. Have you bought a CD lately that just made you want to share, made you think really hard, or tickled your ear hair? Let me know! I would like to hear about your music tastes and your forays into the euphonic fringe. Leave a comment below or email me with your recommendations!

Our New Web Home
The BaM Blog has a new home. It may not look a whole lot different, but if you look closely at the Address bar in your browser, you'll see that you're no longer being redirected to MOYL. The folks at XfireWeb have been a great help in getting me set up. If you're interested in getting a website hosted, I recommend these guys. Click on the logo to get info on their hosting plans. Greg Lowery (of MOYL.COM fame) has also helped me tremendously with technical aspects of getting my site transplanted.
Thanks guys!

LOTR in Led Zeppelin tunes?
As we were preparing breakfast on Saturday, Meg put a mix CD in the player--one that I had made a while back. In it was the song 'Ramble On' by Led Zeppelin, one of my favorites by them. As it churned in the background, I heard these lyrics:
"Twas in the Darkest depths of Mordor
I met a girl so fair,
But Gollum and the Evil One
Crept up and slipped away with her."
Hearing this produced a knee-jerk reaction, and then (of course), I had to Google it.
Here's the result: Led Zeppelin's Allusions to the Lord of the Rings
They might not all be accurate, but it's quite an interesting read nonetheless. Happy Monday!

continuing the discussion
Christ Is Our Advocate
1 John 2:1-14 NASB
1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. 7 Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard. 8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining. 9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now. 10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Board and Card Gaming
Played two games last night--one I had played several times before (Dragon's Gold) and one I had never played before (Bohnanza). I got my butt whooped in both. I put out a poor showing in Dragon's Gold. This is a game where you cooperate to defeat dragons (which is easy), but then have a minute to negotiate how the treasure is distributed. Players look to score sets of colors of gems, most of a particular color of gem, and other point gems. Alex looked to be in the lead for most of the game, but he was the victim of 'gang up on the leader.' I was able to collect quite a few magic cards, but they didn't pull me out of last place. Gee came from what seemed like nowhere to pull out a 6-point lead over Alex, who scored second place. Result: Gee-39, Alex-33, Kerry-27, Brad-22, Susie-21, Bert-21.
Next was the card game. Bohnanza is a favorite of many, including Earl and Michelle. From what I understand, they have played quite a few times with Susie and Alan. This was my first foray into bean farming. The game is heavily dependent on trading. I was told at the beginning of the game that those who do not trade will not win. I found the game to be quite the experiment in bluffing and guilt-tripping, but in a humorous way. The goal is to plant beans to trade them for gold. Some beans are worth more than others, but of course those are more rare. Susie looked to garner the first noticeable lead, but then was given the leader treatment by most (you have so much gold, so I won't give you what you want). It wasn't as bad as the Dragon's Gold game from earlier, though. I learned the concept of 'owing' someone in this game. Someone would give a valuable card to another player in exchange for unwritten IOU's. Don't get me wrong, I have done this before in Settlers, but not to this extent. I am not sure if I totally like this element of the game or not, but it was different. I think I trailed the pack throughout this game, but enjoyed it nonetheless. At the end, we thought Earl's scheming had earned him the victory, but Susie edged him by 3. Results: Susie-23, Earl-20, Michelle-17, Mike-17, Bert-15.
In other gaming news, I put in an order to Boulder Games this morning. Games coming my way are Igel Argern (Hedgehogs in a Hurry), Fist of Dragonstones, Hellas, Bang!, and FlowerPower.

Atonement Versus Redemption, Part 2
The wait is over. Yes, I am a couple days late with this look into atonement versus redemption. This discussion is a more narrow look into the love of God, specifically, atonement and redemption. You will remember the two verses we looked at on Friday: We have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. - 1 Timothy 4:10
In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will. - Ephesians 1:11
First, Jesus Christ is the Savior of all men. Scripture says it, and there is no sense in trying to say it any other way. Titus 2:11 says, "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men." This leads to Ephesians 1 which says not all men have salvation. In a very real sense, God has atoned for the sins of all men, elect and non-elect, believers and non-believers. This is why God can exist in a totally depraved world among sinners because the death of Christ satisfied God's need to atone for their sins in some way. Is it the same way as those receiving eternal life? NO! Look at Titus 3:5-7, "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." How awesome it that!? Everybody does not receive eternal life because God has applied the death of Christ for redemption to those whom He has chosen. A person might say that Christ's death is sufficient for all but made efficient for the elect, the chosen, believers. One thing to note about Titus and scripture in general, God chose us not on any basis of ourselves including belief. God's choosing is soley Him choosing us before the foundation of the world not on account of anything we have ever done or ever will do. If you have questions about what I have written or comments about the same, email me at ns010299@aol.com. Look for next's week question on Friday. Atonement Versus Redemption
Now for a discussion starter for the weekend. I will give you two verses. How do they relate? How do they possibly contradict?
We have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. - 1 Timothy 4:10
In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will. - Ephesians 1:11
Has Christ died for everyone, or is his death sufficient only for those God has chosen?
Email me with your thoughts. - ns010299@aol.com - I will write Monday with the Bible as our guide as to what this all means.

Calvinism
Good morning! Bert has asked me to join his blog as an additional author to the blog. My purpose and goal is to provide accurate biblical truth as to why election, predestination and the Five Points of Calvinism are true. Until just two days ago, I was a staunch 5pointer of Calvinism. I have come to understand atonement and redemption more accurate to what the Bible has to say that I am a 5pointer with a twist. To find out one church's explanation of the 5 points of Calvinism, go here: http://www.desiringgod.com/library/topics/doctrines_grace/tulip.html. Read on in the coming days, weeks, months and years to find out more. I always welcome good biblical conversation using the Bible as our guide. Email me at anytime. ns010299@aol.com
