New [English] Version of Piratenbucht
If I didn't already own the German equivalent, this would be a must-buy for me. The artwork that they display on the website for this is beautiful. It's definitely an improvement over the German version, although it had very good art itself.
I must commend Days of Wonder on a great job in the art department. They have also rewritten the rulebook to make it more user friendly. I am eager to see that, as I know there were a few items in the English translation of the German game that weren't so straightforward.
I look forward to playing a friend's copy, as I am sure that one of them will indeed not pass this up.

Exciting New Games on the Horizon Rarely does it happen that I hear about a game and feel that it's a 'must-buy.' When I first heard about Puerto Rico, I felt this way. I was determined to purchase it even before having played it. I actually did get a play of it before buying, and that merely solidified my resolve to procure it.
I browse through the Spielfrieks Yahoo Group regularly, and today came across a message that really piqued my interest. The source of the news was from the Rio Grande Games website, to which I quickly surfed.
Much to my delight, i found the following information:
"... Carcassonne: the Castle (a new Carcassonne stand-alone game for 2 players from Reiner Knizia and Klaus-Jürgen Wrede)... will be released in October.
We still hope to release the Puerto Rico card game in October or November..."
Now, Carcassonne is one of my favorite board games [although technically it doesn't have a 'board.'] It was my second 'German' board game purchase, and it has held its popularity with me for my two plus years in the hobby. Additionally, Reiner Knizia is one of my favorite board game designers -- and arguably the most accomplished. With this combination, it's a definite 'must-buy' for me.
Secondly, the announcement of a Puerto Rico card game is also a source of great anticipation. I love to play this game, and perhaps this new manifestation will allow for a similar style play in a shorter period of time, and perhaps with two players, much like the Settlers of Catan Card Game did with the classic Settlers game.
In conclusion, it is my intention to procure these titles as soon as they are commercially ready for consumption. Mmmmmm!
Rio Grande Games is an American company based in New Mexico that translates and repackages German (and other European) games for the English-speaking public. You can find them online at www.riograndegames.com.
