Fatherhood

I am soon to be father to someone who has yet to know what a father is. Soon, I will be her definition of father. What weight that holds, and yet eagerly I await to bear it.

In this moment of lucidity at 3am on a Wednesday morning, my soundtrack of rain against the rooftops, a sudden epiphany introduces itself. Largely, my wife and I will be her world. We will call ourselves “Mommy” and “Daddy,” but we will truly be Messenger, Ambassador, Guardian, Mentor, Provider, Advocate, and so very much more.

What weight that holds, and yet eagerly I await to bear it.

Almost Famous
The new Pirate's Cove game is ready from Days of Wonder. As I was taking a look at the official website, I found that I had been published! What a nice surprise -- now if I can only get them to link to my website.
See it here, under Six Player Modification: Pirate's Cove

Dethroned
Well, Troy met his maker on Saturday. I made a good showing at the Master of All Games Tournament [2nd Iteration], but ultimately fell in the final game to the creator of the MOAG trophy (whom I dubbed "Troy"). It was quite an intense final four. I thought that I was destined to lose at Zertz, but discovered a winning move before it was too late. Then it was a tight game of Tamsk, where Greg edged out the victory in a well-fought territory battle.

All in all, it was an enjoyable day. Thanks to Scott and Kerry for hosting again. Congrats again to Greg -- the new Master of All Games!

Final Destination
At long last, Troy makes it to Catan...

Troy: It's even better than I had imagined; Lush green fields, majestic mountains, golden fields of wheat, cottages in the valleys, tiny sheep. Wait...!? Tiny sheep? Must be something in the water.

Come to think of it, the houses are tiny, too and I can see over the treetops. Only thing that seems to be of normal size is this gentleman to my left.

It's a small world after all!

Countdown to Parenthood
If all goes according to plan and Emily arrives on her due date, we have one more month to go. Meg suggested this weekend that we play as many 2-player card/board games as we can until she comes. You know I didn't complain about that. Well, coming up this Saturday is the Master of All Games Tourney #2. In light of this, Troy's last (most likely) adventure will be released tomorrow.

Have a great Tuesday!

GO NOLES!!

UPDATE: I was wrong -- so very wrong. I guess it is appropriate that a team called the Hurricanes would do well in bad weather. I suppose there's always next year. :(

Nothing New Here...
...but there will be. "Where's Troy?" you may ask. Well, it takes a long time to get to where he's going, even if by plane. But stay tuned because the last episode of Troy's Adventures is coming soon!

victory away

Our alma mater [University of Houston] played at East Carolina University last night. We were blessed with free tix from the parents of some new friends, who happen to be ECU alumni.

Talk about sore thumb syndrome. Try sitting in the opponent's alumni section wearing a bright sweatshirt with the visiting team's colors!

Houston came through for us. Doesn't feel like the college days at all. :|
