Milestone

Yesterday was a red letter day for DDO (my shorthand for dreifuss.org). Since I have been keeping track -- which has been about a year and a half -- there have been over ten thousand hits to this website. And as it turns out (as far as I can figure) visitor number 10,000 came from my childhood home.

So, Mom or Bro: Congratulations! You're our 10,000th Visitor!

20 Down

I have finally hit the 20 pounds lost mark. It has taken me over 8 months, but I made it nonetheless. It would have taken me a lot less time had I been consistent with my excercise. But I'm here.

Now I have 14 pounds to go to get to my goal weight and a 'normal' BMI. It's funny that my goal seems more attainable slightly this side of 160. I guess mentally going from the 160s to the 140s seemed more daunting.

I've heard that the last 10 pounds are the hardest to lose. I'm sure it's true. It's one of those failsafe prophecies, like this quip oft used when finding a misplaced item: "It's always in the last place you look." Duh.

I'll not be looking for these lost pounds, lest I find them again.

A New Kid In Town

Back about four years ago, I abandoned my longtime friend Netscape Navigator. I held on when others said that it was dead, but finally, I realized that I was using an inferior product and ended that relationship, only to begin what would become quite a rocky one with IE.

A few weeks ago I heard about a website called www.browsehappy.com. It's basically an anti-Internet Explorer website that promotes four different open-source browsers and points out the flaws in IE (security, pop-ups, etc.). I hesitated at first. Even though I'd been burned, it was familiar.

Get firefox

Now I'm hooked on Firefox. For one, it's just an attractive browser. And if you don't like the original, there are several themes (skins) to choose from. There are also a multitude of extensions that add functionality to the browser. My favorite: gestures, which act as graffiti shortcuts to go back, forward, close, open new window, etc. The tabular browsing is also very nice.

So, I recommend that you check it out. It doesn't cost anything (and I'm not compensated for promoting it, just so you know) and you can always go back to Internet Exploder if you want. :P
