A Sad Day for Raleigh Gamers
Yesterday I found out that my local brick-and-mortar game store went out of business.
This is the place that I learned about 'German' games. I've made several friends there. I used to be a 'regular' at the Thursday night gaming sessions. My wife and I gamed there before we were married. We even brought our infant daughter there a few times.
I will miss it for sure. But the loss is greater than just the store or a place to meet people and play games. I think of all the people who won't have the same great experience that I did: walking in the store to get a Christmas present and leaving with a knowledge of this great hobby and some nifty people.
But let's look at the bright side: there's still at least two stores in Cary that I can frequent (although they're much further away) and the owner of this store owns one of those.
Secondly, the fact that so many friendships were made and so many people were brought to the hobby through the store.
I guess all good things must come to an end. I just figured the store would be around a lot longer.

Behold the Lamb of God
May you experience God through His Son Jesus Christ today. God bless and Merry Christmas!
“ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ”- Isaiah 9:6

12 Bugs of Christmas
A programmer at work forwarded this to me. It's so funny, I had to share...
The 12 Bugs of Christmas - A Software Developers' Version
1. For the first bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
See if they can do it again.
2. For the second bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
3. For the third bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
4. For the fourth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
5. For the fifth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
6. For the sixth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
7. For the seventh bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Say they need an upgrade
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
8. For the eighth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Find a way around it
Say they need an upgrade
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
9. For the ninth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Blame it on the hardware
Find a way around it
Say they need an upgrade
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
10. For the tenth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Change the documentation
Blame it on the hardware
Find a way around it
Say they need an upgrade
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
11. For the eleventh bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Say it's not supported
Change the documentation
Blame it on the hardware
Find a way around it
Say they need an upgrade
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.
12. For the twelfth bug of Christmas, my manager said to me:
Tell them it's a feature
Say it's not supported
Change the documentation
Blame it on the hardware
Find a way around it
Say they need an upgrade
Reinstall the software
Ask for a dump
Run with the debugger
Try to reproduce it
Ask them how they did it and
See if they can do it again.

Happy Holidays from Troy
I know -- Troy has been MIA recently. That is my fault. I've neglected to document and detail his adventures.
Here's the review -- he completed his combat training and was stationed overseas. We can't tell you where -- you know, top secret military stuff.
Now he's on temporary leave to visit friends. Here you see him with compadre Mr. Smore. It's always a good visit, except for the inevitable weight gain from the sweets. It's all marshmallows and chocolate with these guys.
Well, today Troy could be shipped back to who-knows-where to fulfill country duty. It really depends on the performance of one. Anyway, a full and brief report will come soon (within the week most likely) to let everyone know his fate. This could be the last time we see Troy for a long time.
Troy sends his best Christmas wishes to everyone.

First of December
a bit of seasonal poetry
Winter creeps in like a serpent
Sliding out of its skin
Autumn battles, but he's out cold
He knows that he can't win
The Summer fires are no match
For frozen earth, iced sky
So Spring is the only savior
Jack Frost cannot deny
