Pumpkin "D" sign

No, we're not Duke fans. D is for Dreifuss, that's good enough for we. :)

Claimbusters!

This is hopefully going to be the first in an ongoing series of posts about debunking the claims of advertising/marketing.

Claimbuster #1: "Not in My Fridge" says University Student

The unnamed student's attorney and PepsiCo are in talks. Early indications point to a settlement of a 5-year supply of Mountain Dew, or until date of graduation.

Funny 'Cuz It's True

The following is a good article from about a year ago that reflects an ongoing phenomenon. Best line: “I told my parents I am coming home this Thanksgiving to spend time with them, not to fix their printer.”

DDO Minor Facelift

I've been doing a little housecleaning here on DDO. I have made all my right-left side blog references into buttons, even where no graphics could be found. I have also added my BlogRoll to the left-left side. For the uninitiated, this is a live list of the blogs I read. The list will highlight the blogs that have new entries. Therefore, this makes browsing and reading more efficient. It also shows you what I'm 'into' - therefore revealing a bit more about myself. But that's kind of irrelevant considering my audience. :) That is further proven by the "Who Links Here" utility (in the left green section) that I installed today as well.

Have an interesting day!

Update:
It seems that the highlighting feature isn't working. Maybe I was attributing a feature to Bloglines that's actually in another similar service.

Update2: It looks like the BlogRoll pushes the latest updated blog to the top. Time will tell if this works consistently.

Pure Fun - Hex by Hex

It has been WAY too long since I've posted some meaty content here. I'd rather be playing games than writing about them, but it's still been way too long.

My latest game crazes have centered around three things - war, expansions, and hexes... [READ MORE ON GAMING PAGE]

Starbucks gave evolutionists and gay rights activists a say on its latte-laden cardboard. Soon you'll see a Rick Warren quote (of Purpose Driven Life fame) between your caffeinated fingers.

Gamer's Testimony

This is a neat story about how one guy got into modern-day board games:

Sean's Story
I almost never played board games growing up - we just didn't have any. I had a chess and checkers set, but no one would play with me after I got a rep for beating them (and I'm not even very good)... [READ MORE ON GAMING PAGE]

Twenty-Seven

It's an odd thing, I must admit. And I don't believe in luck. But I've had a favorite number for about 15 years now. Probably about a year after I chose it, this 'incident' occurred:

My church's youth group was in Orlando, Florida for a combined choir tour/mission trip. My friend Adam and I were the setup/takedown crew. In the middle of a setup, this little girl (about 12 years old) came up to me and asked:

"What's the number after 26?"

I stared at her in disbelief. I then looked over to my friend Adam to see if he put her up to it. He wasn't looking over at all - no suspicious behavior. So I answered her question and then went over to my friend and asked him if he had talked to a little girl. He said no.

So I took Adam over to the ice cream shop I saw this girl enter and then asked her to repeat the question she had just asked me. Adam couldn't believe it either. He thought I had set this little 'coincidence' up myself.

When asked to explain herself, she said she was just going up to random strangers and asking them random questions. A juvenile stunt to pass the time on a summer day.

That's the honest truth. And it's the weirdest 27 story that I have, but there are others. For instance, do you know how many books there are in the New Testament? I'll give you two guesses, and the first one doesn't count. :)

Occurrences

My number came up for me this past weekend. It seems I can't go far without seeing it here or there. My hotel room at my company's annual User Conference had the number in it. It also shows up as the last two digits of a new credit card I recently obtained (NOT a good thing, mind you).

These are just a couple of occurrences. Other places it shows up - my zip code, in the Bible, and in a Rubik's Cube. Have you guessed the number yet?

NUMB3R5

What is it about numbers that is so fascinating? So mysterious? The recent television phenomenon known as LOST brings this to mind.

4 8 15 16 23 42

I believe the writers of the show bring this numerical element because there's something about numbers that has mass appeal. How many people do you know DON'T have a lucky (or favorite) number?

Even in the Bible, there's a number synonymous with Satan that we're told to stay away from in the end days. Many people know this and some corporations (clothing, skateboards) even use its rebellious connotation to entice young consumers.

I walk through Wal-Mart and see childrens clothes with seemingly random numbers on them. They could have meaning, but more than likely it's just following numeric popularity.

Although I am not superstitious, I have a favorite number. It sounds silly, but it has meaning for me. If you know me, you probably know what it is. For the rest of you, I'll let the mystery percolate a while. Clue: It's an odd number with less than three digits.
