And so this is Week 29!
I just got back a little while ago from another visit to the obstetrician's office. Today, I met with Dr. Henderson (my favorite of the team). Somehow, they accidentally forgot me in the lobby - maybe I should have piped up sooner, since they are normally very prompt about getting you in and out. After an hour, I finally went up and mentioned that I was still waiting and from the look on the ladies' face, I knew that it was a good thing I had said something.
Anyway, I was very encouraged by my digits today - blood pressure and weight. I had only gained a little over 4 lbs. since my last visit, which was only 1 lb. over my goal. Dr.Henderson said that we are "cruisin'" along and that everything looks great. My glucola test for gestational diabetes came back with flying colors and my thyroid and blood panel came back perfect as well. Emily is also right on target for her size this week.
He made sure before I left that I knew how to get a hold of them in the middle of the night and that I had all of my prelim's ready - we had registered at the hospital, a pediatrician had been picked (we are going for an "interview"/orientation next week) and we're scheduled for our birthing classes (though they are not until October). Now, if you ask me, it sounds like we are getting kind of serious here - could it be that we might be having a baby soon? YA THINK!
Emily, for her part, is growing daily, as my "flames of love" tattoo indicates. She is very active, which is always a wonderful affirmation to me that she is o.k.
I came to the final stark realization last night, after our leadership community meeting, that I am a mother. Now, if you ask MY mother, I have been one for a while, but I have never really accepted that. As far as the government is concerned, Emily is a real human being, though we may not be able to see her quite yet. There is some strange, huge, unfathomable jump that has to be made in one's mind and heart between being a person and being a mother. Is it because I hold in such high regard those who sacrifice their lives for their children? Of course. Maybe it is also because I know how selfish I can be. I find myself in awe that God would allow me the opportunity to bring into the world another living being and to watch over her, protect her, love her, and support her all the days of her life.
Yet another amazing example of grace .....

It’s Week 28! Welcome to the third and final trimester!
This past week, Emily gave us a bit of concern when she became lethargic over the weekend. From Sunday through Tuesday, we were paying complete attention to her movements, or the lack thereof. Starting Wednesday, though, she has gotten back into her usual active self, which is quite reassuring. She is usually a predictably active little one.
We have been grateful this past week to receive some items on loan from Bert’s co-workers that include a bouncy seat and wash tub (Thanks to the Wang family!).
We also found out that we will be having our first shower with Bert's coworkers on Saturday, Sept 27th, hosted by Lisa Watson.
If all of that weren’t news enough, we put the finishing touches on the crib. We filmed portions of the assembly to share with our family -- especially my grandparents, who bought it for us.
So, that’s a slice of life here in pre-baby land. We go back to the doctor’s next Thursday for our 3-week check-up.

Week 27!
Well, we've made it to the week of Bert's favorite number - 27! We are exactly 3 months from Emily's due date (Nov 14th). The time is going by quickly, and many of my co-workers are starting to figure that out, too.
At the house, we are putting the finishing touches on the crib, and the video of its assembly. It looks wonderful, and only makes us more excited about Emily's arrival. This weekend, we will be getting the mattress and putting the bed linens on it. I'm sure we'll get pictures and put them up on the web, don't worry!
Emily is growing by leaps and bounds. This past week, she had her first bout of hiccups (incredibly cute!) and I saw my first set of stretch marks. Now, my mother would tell you that this is not something that I should publicize, but I'm actually not that concerned about them - the reality is that both women AND men have them, we just get them in different ways - and I consider this one of the easiest portions of my motherhood certification (the other exams are much more difficult - i.e. LABOR!).

Welcome to Week 25!
Did you know that in every state in the US, Emily would now be legally considered "alive". That is to say, that if anything were to happen to her, she would be just as real as you or I. Pretty ironic, when you consider that she is over 6 months old!
This past week, as I mentioned in Friends and Family Email, we received our camcorder. This comes to us through the amazing generosity of Bert's mother and brother. We are so excited that we will be able to capture Emily's life from the very start on video. It makes us feel really, well, old, though.
On Thursday, we go in for another appointment - the last of our once a month appointments and some testing. The testing is standard at this point in our pregnancy and includes the test for gestational diabetes and a fetal kick test. From the way that she is kicking and moving today, that won't be a problem at all.
Only 14 or so more weeks before we will have our little bundle of joy in our arms - oh how are lives will change! We can't wait!
