Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock .....

Two weeks and counting ..... Can it really be that soon? Hopefully. :)

This is week 38, and with each passing week, the reality that she might come at any time becomes more likely. We have been asked by most folks if we are ready - and I think that I can confidently say that we are - or as ready as we are going to be.

Last weekend, I officially packed our luggage. Our bags are sitting in the nursery with the "Grab 'N' Go" list for things that can't be packed ahead of time. Today, since Bert took the day off from work, he ran some errands, including going to the fire station and having them check our car seat. I'm quite relieved that it is MUCH more secure than before.

Yesterday, my office surprised us with a baby shower. They were incredibly generous to us (even the company bought us our swing!). Tomorrow is my last "official day" at work, although I am planning on being there next week. I had told my boss that I would definitely be there through the end of October (which would be tomorrow) and then after that we would play it by ear. If I continue to feel pretty well, I'll continue working - there's no reason not to.

The reality of her eminent arrival is starting to sink in. Tonight, Bert is at one of his last game nights for a while. We know that our schedules are going to be different for a while, so he's going to be there tonight until it closes - getting in as many games as he can. Mommy Meg is at home, puttering about and working through the piles and loose ends around the house. Emily .... she's rolling and growing.

A slice of life from the Dreifuss household ...... :)

WAHOO! We are full term!

Yes, it's week 37 of our pregnancy. That means that as of today, if Emily was born, she would be considered full term, and not premature. Her lungs are supposed to be fully developed, she is about 20" long and she weighs about 6 lbs. WOW! Can you believe it!

This has been our first week of adjusting to the changes in our car. We have sunshades put up in the windows and the carrier is in place, ready for her arrival. The stroller has now been positioned in the trunk. At the house, this past weekend, we cleared off the changing table and did some last minute organizing and preparing.

Though by tradition, first timers are supposed to go late, the majority of people that we know had their little ones on or before their due dates. As of today's doctor's appointment, she is still head down, but she has not positioned herself in my pelvic bone. Apparently, she is still opting for the roomier high position. She was quite unsettled by the doctor's poking and prodding. I told my doctor that I thought that it was a bit unfair that she got to do the poking and prodding and I got to deal with the unhappy baby who was rearranging my insides.

For most of my doctor's appointments, Bert has gone with me, but today, I was joined by our friend Paula. I get quite a kick out of how excited she and her husband (Todd) are about Emily's arrival. Like so many of our friends, they share in our excitement and it makes it doubly wonderful to be able to share the journey with them. Paula was so excited about getting to hear Emily's heartbeat today that it reminded me of just how miraculous all of this is, and all that we have to look forward to as parents. Sometimes, when you don't have a lot of sleep, you're concerned about insurance, and you can't remember what size your feet once were, that can get lost. Thanks to our friends for reminding us!

So, one of these days - a day, maybe like today, we will be posting that she's here. Bert has even started working on the announcement webpage! He has it filled in as "x" lbs and "x" oz. and "x" inches long and born on "x, 2003" at "x' time. It's pretty funny.

We can't wait to fill in all of the "x"s and share it with you!!

Less than a month!!

Well, there's nothing really exciting to share this week - everything is humming along towards Emily's arrival. It's hard to believe that we are down to a month. We are now going to the doctor every week (we have it scheduled for every Thursday afternoon). This past week's visit was rather uneventful - she is right on schedule, my blood pressure and weight are exactly as expected. Next week, I believe, they start checking to see if I have dilated, effaced, or have changed station (all terms that we have learned over the course of the past few months). The nursery is pretty much set, and I can actually say that we are prepared for her arrival (as much as we can be since we are first timers). So .... we'll keep you posted if anything things!!!

And now ..... 5 more weeks .....

It's 2:45am, and I'm up, puttering around the house. My beloved husband has had to put up with a truly psycho wife this past week. It seems that all of the mental symptoms of pregnancy have hit me all of sudden. I think that up until recently, I was relatively "normal" - but now .... I'm sure that he will be grateful to have the old me back again in a few weeks.

Our Thursday doctor's appointment was very encouraging. Most encouraging of all - Emily has turned head down, in preparation for birth. My measurements were all fine (blood pressure, tummy size, etc). Now we go to appointments every week. The obstetrician said that Emily has been right on average the whole way, so if she comes around her due date, she will be about 7.5 to 8 lbs. (Let's all pray that she is a week or two early!)

Thanks to our awesome friends, we have spent a good portion of this week shopping for last minute items. We purchased our diaper bag at Babies 'R' Us, thanks to a gift card that we received. We made a "mondo" trip to Target tonight to pick up stuff, again, a la gift card. We also received a package last night that contained Emily's Kick 'N' Crawl Barn - both parents and cats give it rave reviews! Thanks so much to everyone for their generosity! We feel incredibly blessed and supported by you!

Tomorrow morning we will be attending the second half of our birthing and childcare classes at Rex (Hospital). Last week's class was in-depth on preparation for labor and delivery. Tomorrow, we should finish delivery, recovery, and what to do with our little one when we get her home.

We are planning on starting to work on our announcement webpage in the next few days - we hope to use the website to keep everyone updated as the big event draws near!

6 more weeks ....

And tomorrow it will be 5 weeks and 6 days ... I found it humorous this past week when my friend asked me how many weeks along I was and I couldn't exactly remember off-hand. When you get to this point, I guess, your perspective becomes "How many weeks do I have left?", not so much, "How long have we been doing this?"

I had lunch today with a friend who had her baby in June and prior to that, she was a work associate. Now, she is a full time Mom and her life is dramatically different. As she said herself, conversation now revolves around feedings, diapers, and dribbles. That day is coming quickly for us, too.

This past weekend, we received a shower from Bert's co-workers. It was a beautiful evening - complete with lots of laughter, excellent food, and generous friends. Emily received lots of goodies - everything from a Sony memory stick (REALLY - IT'S FOR EMILY, NOT HER DADDY!), to clothing, to her own bath robe, to scrapbooking packets. Bert and I want to extend our great appreciation to everyone who came!

This weekend, we start the first half of our birthing and newborn care classes at the hospital. I'm sure that they will be very educational.

In a few short weeks, we will have a little one all our own .....
