And here she is!
Emily Anne was born at 10:31am on Sunday, Nov 9th. She weighed 7lbs. 7oz. and was 20.5 inches long.
We started having contractions on Thursday night. The only problem was that they were not consistent, but rather sporadic. One might be 6 minutes apart from the next and then it might be 30 minutes. Before the obstetrician would let us go to the hospital, they had to be consistently coming every 8 to 10 minutes. We were up intermittently through the night on Thursday and on Friday, I stayed home from work with sporadic contractions.
By Saturday afternoon and evening, we were getting pretty frustrated. Contractions were stronger, but still sporadic and inconsistent and they had been going on for almost 48 hours. We had gotten about 8 hours of sleep through all of this.
And then ......
It was about 9pm on Saturday night. We started having serious contractions that were coming every 6 to 8 minutes. We called the doctor and headed to the hospital around 11:00pm.
By 11:30pm, we were checked into the hospital, dilated to 4 cm, and having contractions every 4 minutes or so, and experiencing the most excruciating pain known to man. By 1:30am, we decided to go with an epidural and it was the best thing in the world. We were able to sleep for about 4 hours while I was still experiencing contractions and continuing to dilate. Drugs are a wonderful gift from God.
At 8:00am, we started serious pushing and by 10:30am, we had a little one in our arms. My parents drove through the night from Florida and managed to skid into the delivery room only 45 minutes before she was born.
After her delivery, we spent two days in the hospital recovering and came home on Tuesday afternoon. Since then, we have been trying to get her to breastfeed, which she has strangely forgotten all of a sudden. The first two nights were pretty sleepless and frustrating, since she was fussy. Last night, was ideal. We got about 7 hours of sleep and fed her every two to three hours. She seemed very content.
It's amazing how beautiful and wonderful she is - a little bit of Bert, a little bit of me, and a little bit of Emily. We know that she will grow so fast that it will make our head spin, but it will be great each step of the way.
As for the website, we will be continuing to write the Baby blog weekly and provide pictures of Emily every week, instead of my pregnancy pictures.
Thanks to all of our friends and family for their incredible support!

7 days and counting ….
Welcome to week 39! Of course, we have stopped counting up and are now counting down. We are beginning to more fully comprehend the verse in the Bible that talks about what you will do tomorrow, but instructs that we should say, “Lord willing, we will ….”.
We truly don’t know when Emily will come, so all plans are tentative, at best.
Last night, we started realizing that things might be serious when I started having contractions and pain – but nothing cyclical, like I expected. This morning, things have been touch and go.
This afternoon, we head back to the doctor’s office. At the beginning of my pregnancy, they gave us a little pocket book to write down notes for each appointment and questions. As of this week, we are out of pages in the book, so I guess that means that we aren’t going to have anymore doctor’s appointments? Wouldn’t that be cool!
So, we anxiously wait ….
