A light at the end of the tunnel …

The Dreifuss family is starting to experience a bit of normalcy. Were it not for the holidays, I think that things would be even more manageable.

Emily, of course, is growing like a weed. At her one month appointment last week, she weighed just over 9lbs and ranged between the 45th and 70th percentile on weight, head circumference, and length.

We usually get about 6 to 7 hours of sleep each night, with one feeding in the middle of the night (usually around 3:00/4:00am). I have gotten to be intimate with the t.v. options at that time of night (I would highly recommend the ABC Early Morning Show with David Muir!).

Emily is getting ready for her first Christmas, including visits with both of her grandparents. It should be great fun! We are starting to see her little faces and reactions, which is great! It makes it seem like she is a little person, instead of just a sleeping/eating/pooping machine.

It’s hard to believe that she is almost 6 weeks old. WOW! Time does fly.

Life with Emily

Well, it's been 3 weeks since I have written. Does that tell you how busy life can be with a newborn?

I knew that I didn't have a clue what life would be like. On that, I was right. There are a few minutes here and there to grab something to eat, or move laundry, but the bulk of the day is spent feeding Precious, burping, changing diapers, cleaning up from pooty explosions, and calming her.

Many times, it's not the funnest thing in the world. Many times, it's difficult to be positive when you are running on little sleep - I'm tired and my beloved is tired, too. Life as it was before is a fleeting memory. I keep reminding myself that this is a season of our lives - a season of dramatic change and challenge - a season of smelly diapers and tiny toes. All parents whistfully talk about when their little ones were pint-size. This is that time in our lives.

Emily Anne will never be like she is today. Tomorrow, her feet will be a little bit bigger, her hair a little big longer, her eyes a little bit bigger, and the little one will be just a little less little than she was before. So, I'm grateful today to have to wrap this up, to go feed my little pint-size cutie, while she's still pint size.
